CBD vs THC: Does CBD Make You Feel High?

CBD does not make you feel high and the reason is quite simple and completely reliable. While THC binds with CB1 receptors located in the brain and CNS, CBD influences CB2 receptors. These different receptors are located in the immune system and related areas in the body.

THC causes intoxication because it impacts areas of the brain that affect coordination, cognition, and memory. CBD interacts with totally different receptors which have no effect on your dexterity or perception of your surroundings. Instead, it largely affects pain and inflammation.

Whether CBD actually binds to these receptors or simply alters the levels of endocannabinoids that do, it has no effect on areas of the body that produce intoxication.

CBD use does not show up on most types of drug tests. General drug screenings are looking for certain byproducts that THC creates in the body as it breaks down. CBD simply does not produce these byproducts.

CBD vs THC: Why Does CBD Work?

Science used to understand that CBD attached to CB2 receptors the way THC does with CB1. The current opinion on this, however, is clearly stated by Project CBD:

Although CBD has little binding affinity for either of the two cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2), cannabidiol modulates several non-cannabinoid receptors and ion channels. CBD also acts through various receptor-independent pathways—for example, by delaying the “reuptake” of endogenous neurotransmitters (such as anandamide and adenosine) and by enhancing or inhibiting the binding action of certain G-protein coupled receptors.
